Unlocking the Platinum trophy in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 requires completing a wide array of combat and story achievements. One trophy that often confuses players is the Surge trophy, which focuses on using Peter Parker's powerful suit abilities during a specific combat state. Understanding the mechanics behind this objective will help you efficiently track your progress and complete the challenge without unnecessary grinding.
Understanding the Surge Trophy Requirements
To earn the Surge trophy, players must activate Symbiote Surge and use Symbiote Abilities 25 times while the surge state remains active. This requirement specifically tracks the activation of individual special moves, such as Anti-Venom Strike, Blast, or Punch, rather than basic melee attacks. Fortunately, the requirement is cumulative across your entire playthrough and does not need to be accomplished within a single activation.
How to Activate and Charge Symbiote Surge
Symbiote Surge is triggered by pressing L3 and R3 simultaneously once the dedicated gauge in the top-right corner of the screen is fully charged. You can charge this meter during combat by landing standard melee strikes, performing parries, and defeating hostiles. Utilizing suit upgrades like Don't Resist or Alien Harmony can further assist by accelerating gauge gains and extending the duration of surge mode.
Best Combat Strategies for Fast Progression
The most efficient way to farm usage count is by holding off on using your Symbiote abilities until after you press L3 and R3. Once activated, quickly trigger all four mapped abilities before the gauge drains out completely. Engaging large groups of enemies at Symbiote Nests or random street crimes provides endless targets to continuously build your meter and repeat the process.
Unlocking the Trophy in Post-Game
If you have already finished the main narrative, you can still easily achieve this trophy during free-roam exploration. Peter retains his symbiote-style abilities via the Anti-Venom suit, which fully count toward the 25 required ability triggers. Simply patrol the city districts, trigger Symbiote Surge against lingering criminal groups, and unleash your abilities until the notification pops.
